 Mission Statement

Ron Mears, creator of WorldCountries.info, lives in Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA. He is a software developer and photographer.

WorldCountries.info was designed to be a place where you can tell the world about the interesting things to see in your country and about the great people there, or learn about other cultures and countries. Despite the availability of the Internet to almost everyone, there is no other site which makes this possible.

This site was launched in January of 2005. At that time, the site was like a big house of hundreds of rooms with no one at home --- only a few dry facts about each country. After six months of development, I really had to question if this concept would work once actually published in the commericial environment of the Internet. But, one by one, people and governments all over the world began to respond. There are now well over a dozen feature articles here for you --- and not little short articles with tiny photos but full length articles in which the pride of the contributors seems to shine from the pages.

There must be millions who believe, as I do, that each country on this beautiful planet is an interesting place with good and thoughtful people, and that we should know much more about each other than we do. Wherever you live, there is a room here for you.

Let's fill it with the sights and sounds of your part of the world for all to see.

For Contributors

There are several ways you can participate in our growing on-line community.

Travel Writers. There are two levels publishing:

  • Feature articles on the main site: The standards are extremely high. The article must be well written in English (although we will happy publish a mirror article in a second language); it must contain at least one picture per page; the photography must be of excellent quality; the article must focus exclusively on the attractions and culture of the subject country; we are not interested in political articles of any kind. Nor should the feature article be based around or reference one time events. The idea is to provide information about your country which is not likely to change much over time. You will be given full credit on each article page and can post links to your web site. These are articles are a lot of work, so send us an email before submitting anything.
  • The Writer's Cafe: Here you are free to publish short, one page articles (or longer ones), with or without pictures. The article may be about any destination on earth, but self-promotion of travel services is not permitted except in the article credits section. Click here to enter the Travel Writer's Cafe.

Photographers. We welcome family-friendly photos of just about anything in our Photographer's Gallery. The galleries are attractive and offer you the way to add a running narrative to your photos! Click here to enter the Photographer's Gallery.

Discussion Forum. Disussion forums are difficult to get off the ground because newcomers see little activity. We hope you will register and post to get the ball rolling, or perhaps even become a moderator for your country. Click here to enter the Discussion Forum.

For Readers

Not everyone has time to contibute, so we hope you will simply enjoy WorldCountries.info as a reader or use it as an information resource.

It's a big world, so we've built a big house. One day, we want to see every people in the world represented here, because there should be some place where is it crystal clear that we really do live in one big house, that the same sun and stars shine upon us all in equal measure. This is a mission which cannot fail.

Regards,

Ron Mears
